The first American flag was made of hemp. Thomas Jefferson was a ganja grower and smoker. The real reason cannabis sativa was suppressed was so tycoons like William Randolph Hearst and Andrew Mellon could keep their fortunes in the 1930s. Marijuana was a made up name to demonize the female cannabis plant to help rally against hemp the male plant to make it illegal to suppress cheaper ways hemp could be developed into substitutes for cotton, polyester, newspaper, nylon, as well as a source of fuel. Hearst and his cronies undertook a media and political fear campaign that resulted in the 1937 Marijuana Law making it illegal.
